Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at Careem, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining Kafka clusters and their ecosystems to guarantee high availability and scalability for services used by millions daily. You will engage in all stages of development, from design to operational support of storage clusters hosted on AWS. Your role includes developing tools and technical processes that streamline workflows for engineers across various services. You will proactively identify opportunities to automate and scale systems while maintaining security and reliability standards. Additionally, you will participate in on-call rotations and contribute to enhancing incident response procedures.
Required Qualifications
Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience in developing, operating, and troubleshooting storage clusters or other highly available systems at scale. Proven expertise in running Kafka on Kubernetes is essential. Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Go, Python, Java, Groovy, Scala, or Ruby is required. A strong background in cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, is necessary, along with experience in infrastructure automation following Infrastructure as Code principles. Solid Unix/Linux skills, including networking and scripting, are expected. Experience in incident response and incident management is considered an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications and Benefits
Additional skills in automation areas like monitoring, continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), and security will be viewed positively. Careem offers a dynamic and collaborative work environment where you can engage with talented colleagues and contribute to impactful projects in a rapidly growing region.
As a full-time employee, you will enjoy a flexible work schedule, typically spending four days per week in the office and one day working remotely. There is also an option to work remotely from any country for up to 30 days annually. For individual contributor roles in technology, a hybrid model of two office days and three remote days per week is available. Careem provides healthcare benefits and fitness reimbursements for activities such as gym memberships, health clubs, and training classes.
